Love is like a Cliff's Edge
by Tess Callan
Love is like a cliff’s edge.
What if a disaster happens?
The ground crumbles,
You slip,
You fall.
And everything is over.
Should you take the risk?
Run to the edge,
Run to see your love,
Dangle your feet carefree,
Feeling relaxed, maybe confident around something as unpredictable as love,
Terrify yourself of falling and making a mistake,
But you find love.
Or should your stay back?
Hiding behind a tree looking on,
You taste the sweetness of love in your mouth,
And you want it so much,
But can’t reach it.
You strain to find it,
Not being able to.
You receive nothing;
Just to be safe.
So, do you take the risk?
I really love how you contrast the two worlds of taking the risk and not taking the risk. I also like the description of these two worlds.
ReplyDeleteI like how you make it seem like a decision, to be or to not be. You show how both sides will effect you, and if one is worth more than the other.
ReplyDeleteI like how you compare love to a cliff's edge, it something different, but it works really well. I also like how you end with a question.
ReplyDeleteI like how you ended the poem. It ends strongly and I like it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the poetic devices you used in your poem, Tess, you took what we did in class and turned it into something beautiful.
