"Message to the Humans"
People, full of life and intelligence.
So greedy, narcissistic, forgetful, ignorant.
Abandoning your roots, lashing the land that nurtured you.
Leaving a scar upon my surface with pollution, deforestation.
Forsaking me, what an aberration.
Inflicting harm on amicable creatures that live with me.
With all of this, how can some still remain passive?
Attempt to fix it, but you can’t.
A vase shattered to pieces.
Child, how many times do I have to tell you not to trample all over the house?
A tremendous amount of turmoil and debris.
What will be left for others?
The crumpled remains of a quickly fading landscape.
Listen to me.
Don’t simply set some silly self-serving New Year’s Resolution to save the Earth,
and drop it like the weight you try to lose.
I love all the children equally, but the hurt you bring upon me.
Unbearable, excruciating pain.
Salvage what is left, get us off this track.
However small that may be, it is worth it.
What would humans do without me, Nature?
I think you did a great job describing humans with this poem. I really liked the line "Child, how many times do I have to tell you not to trample all over the house?"
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you made the listen to me part
