Act 5, Scene 3: The Tragic End

PROMPT C
Quote lines from the scene that you enjoyed and comment on them. Again, here is an example post from a student reading Hamlet.

"Oh, here Will I set up my everlasting rest
And shake the yoke of inauspicious stars
From this world-wearied flesh. Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace: And lips, Oh you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!"

This quote is very sad, since Romeo is talking about how there is nothing left for him to live for, and it is time for him to leave the world. But, it shows how much he loves Juliet, and how she means everything to him. Its a tragic ending, but very touching in a way as well. Even though this story ends with the death of the strongest characters, it shows how true love can beat anything even family rivalries. As well as the "last kiss" touched me very much, as it shows compassion and fierce love.

Act 3, Scene 5: The Twists of Faith

PROMPT E
Discuss the relationships between two or more characters. Assert an opinion about the relationship and back it up with some text evidence from the novel. (5-10 sentences).

The relationship between Juliet and her father is very contradictory because one day her father is very nice to her and gives her freedom, and the next he takes away her freedom. Juliet's father originally planned for Juliet to marry as she pleases, and that Paris would have to get her interested in him. However, after the death of a member of each family, Juliet's father is forcing Juliet to marry Paris by threatening her. As he said, "To answer, "I'll not wed, I cannot love, I am too young, I pray you pardon me." But, an you will not wed, I'll pardon you. Graze where you will, you shall not house with me' (Act 3 Scene 5). He says he loves her, but if Juliet does not marry Paris, he says he will leave her on the streets.

Act 3, Scene 1: The Quarrel Between Mercutio and Tybalt

PROMPT F
Pretend you are a character in the scene. Get inside that character’s mind. Tell how the character feels about himself or herself.  How does he or she feel about the other characters? About the situation? Remember, you are pretending to BE this character. Write a brief paragraph/monologue in the character’s voice. Think Reality TV Confessional. (5-10 sentences). If you’re feeling brave, record it and post the video.

Romeo: Oh my god, these men need to stop fighting. That is, the Prince says the next to disturb the streets of Verona will be executed, yet they still fight. What is so important about starting a quarrel between each other? They are going to get themselves killed! Even worse, this will look bad on me too! The Capulets will think Montagues are troublemakers, and they will try to separate me and my love, Juliet.  I must stop this.

Romeo finds out about Mercutio passing away.

Romeo: That man has killed, murdered, my friend. I will not stand and watch Mercutio die. I will get sweet revenge on Tybalt, as for he caused this whole quarrel and the passing of my Mercutio.

Act 2, Scene 4: Nurse Negotiating Secret Nuptials

PROMPT A
What is happening in the play that reminds you of something that is happening in your life, on TV, in the news, etc. Summarize the issue in the play and in your life in a minimum of 5 sentences.

We all know that many years back women were treated inferior to men, especially a women that serves for another. They were looked upon as objects for pleasure. Yet, today, there are still women being treated inferior to men, and this scene reminds me of it. In Act 2, Scene 4, the nurse is looked down upon and treated as an object by Mercutio.  The anger she expresses after shows even back then women were very mad about the way they were seen by other men, and how they wanted it to change.

Tybalt—Why are you always asking for a fight?
Montague—Why do you have so much hate for Capulet and his family?

Discrimination

Discrimination

Discrimination.
Unfair treatment
Based on race, gender, age,
And the qualities of humans themselves

The terrible experience to be the victim.
Hurts deep down, and you feel like crying everyday.
You shudder at the cruel things said as they haunt you for eternity.
You wanna scream and shout for justice in the world.
It breaks you apart slowly,
Brainwashes you,

Makes you feel
Like you are an insult
And different from everyone else

Makes you feel
Like you don’t belong
And that you should run away
But you don’t know where to go.

Makes you feel
Like living is torture
And how it never stops

It tears you apart from who you really are.
What discrimination causes
War, and destruction,
Watching the world crumbling into pieces as life ends

They judge you based on your skin color
Instead of you brains, and personality.
They keep you from doing what you want.
And dreaming of who you want to be

But I say,
Fight back!

I say do what you want
Ignore the insults
And stand taller than you have ever before.

Show them who's boss
Who is no longer them anymore

Whether you're black or white
Or in between
You gotta stand for who you are.
