Act 2 Scene 5: Juliet and the Nurse

Act 2 Scene 5

Prompt E

The relationship between Juliet and the Nurse is not as joyful as it seems. Juliet sends the Nurse to ask Romeo about the marriage. When she returns, she is sore and out of breath, yet Juliet commands her by saying,

"How art thou out of breath, when thou hast breath
To say to me that thou art out of breath?
  • The excuse that thou dost make in this delay
  • Is longer than the tale thou dost excuse.
  • Is thy news good or bad? Answer to that,
  • Say either, and I'll stay the circumstance.
  • Let me be satisfied: is't good or bad?

Even though the nurse is tired and in need of a break, Juliet yells at the nurse to basically stop the BS and just tell her the news Romeo brings. Even though the nurse is doing something nice for Juliet, she gets caught up in her excitement and disregards for the nurse's feelings.

Act 2 Scene 4: Talk of Marriage

Prompt B
Act 2 Scene 4

Mercutio- Why do you think that Romeo is still in love with Roseline? Obviously he has a change in attitude.
Romeo- Why do you want to get married so early? You barely met Juliet.
Peter- How do you determine when something calls for you to take out a weapon?
Nurse-Why do you believe that Mercutio is using you for pleasure?
Benvolio- Why would you even think that the Nurse wants to have dinner with Romeo?

Act 2 Scene 1: Where is Romeo?

PROMPT A

Act 2 Scene 1:
  • I conjure thee by Rosaline's bright eyes,
  • By her high forehead and her scarlet lip,
  • By her fine foot, straight leg, and quivering thigh,
  • And the demesnes that there adjacent lie,
  • That in thy likeness thou appear to us.

Mercutio and Benvolio are trying to find Romeo, but when they canon find him, they give up. In result, they start making fun of him and insulting him with things they think is funny. Romeo would not appreciate their insults if he were there. This is like friendships between teenage boys. A lot of time between friends they insult each other in amusement and this is what is going on here. It is just a bunch of playful banter that seems to occur a lot.

Act 1, Scene 5: The Capulet Party

PROMPT D
I chose this image because it represents the scene very well. There is a party going on in this image just like the Capulet party in Romeo and Juliet. They also seem to be around the same time period.

The Power in Greed

This world is in a state
of destruction.
Why do individuals value
themselves above a community?

It doesn’t make
a better world,
Instead it just
creates chaos and greed.

With bombings, with shootings
With terror, and violence.
With killings, with fire
With murders
is greed

They say it’s for god,
They say it’s for good.

They’re all just cowards,
They always will be,
Death and destruction…

All ‘cuz of greed.
