Act 1 Scene 5 - Prompt E - Forbidden Kiss
Act 1 Scene 5 - Prompt E
FORBIDDEN KISS
Romeo falls in love quite easily, first he can't stop thinking about Rosaline and as soon as he sees Juliet he is immediately in love. Though they don't know that their love is forbidden, Juliet feels too young and tells Romeo her hands are only for praying, as are her lips and she should not share a kiss with him. It is obvious that they both want each other but they have no idea who each of them are, they share a kiss and Juliet can't stop thinking about Romeo's charm. Romeo want to be in love, even if it means being in love with a Capulet.
Romeo: Then move not while my prayer's effect I take. Thus from my lips, by thine, my sin is purged.
Juliet: Then have my lips the sin that they took.
Romeo: Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again.

The passage that you chose is a really good example of Romeo's charm. Good analysis!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Romeo completely left Rosaline in the dust? Do you think his feelings completely disappeared?
